“Designed by émigré architect Kurt Popper in 1969, this modern residential apartment building is an
early example of this building type that emerged in Melbourne in the late 1960s/early 1970s. It is
distinctly modernist in form and aesthetic, with a curtain walled façade that features an abstract
arrangement of brick spandrels and masonry balconies.”

Secret Design Studio is a small, boutique building and interior design studio that specialises in retro homes of the 1950’s, 1960’s and 1970’s.
Meanwhile, over at the “Pettit and Sevitt Owners’ and Friends’ Club” on Facebook, one of the members has listed this home with its beautiful deciduous creeper-covered pergola. While the home is not a Pettit and Sevitt, it shares much in common with the classic “Lowline” model.![]()

The pergola with a deciduous creeper makes so much sense for a climate like Canberra, with hot, dry summers and cold winters. I am surprised that it is not commonly used more in Australian cool temperate climate zones to provide summer shade to the windows while allowing winter sun into the house.![]()
