#SupplierSaturday Malleys was a widely respected Australian manufacturer of white goods which started back in 1884 as a sheet metal manufacturer making products for the building and plumbing trades. Eventually Malleys diversified into the “Sunrise” Milk Can, metal Esky, and Malleys/Whirlpool white goods such as the Tucker Box chest freezer. Malleys entered into a licensing arrangement with America’s Whirlpool to bring the Whirlpool name into Australian households. The catchphrase for advertising material, 'Guess whose mum's got a Whirpool?' became part of the Australian lingo and an indication of the high esteem Malley's products were held in. Malley's Ltd. was taken over by Simpson Pope Holdings Limited in 1979, and the company was delisted in 1983.youtu.be/i2tGMNYLF_o?si=lTsJHZ0UBUnAdnaXThis Malley's Enfield brochure has been affected by dampness in one corner as it was stored in poor conditions by the previous owner. If anybody has any tips for paper preservation please point me in the right direction as Secret Design Studio has lots of other supplier's brochures with similar light damage - apparently, they were stored in a builder's garage for 50 years!#Malleys #Whirlpool #enfield ... #FurnitureFriday – So many mid-century modern ar #FurnitureFriday – So many mid-century modern architects and clients appreciated the value of built-in furniture to maximise the use of space, and make rooms more multi-purpose. Sadly today this is rarely done as the market prefers to spend money on bigger rooms and bigger houses rather than carefully designed, craftsman-built, more compact solutions.
#WistfulWednesday A slightly chilly Melbourne Wedn #WistfulWednesday A slightly chilly Melbourne Wednesday makes me wistful for this understated Inverloch beach house. It is perfect as it is not trying to be a suburban house or McMansion or follow current Instagram trends, it is just a delightful beach house of the 1960’s for escaping and relaxing. It was sold back in 2019, so I hope it is still there….
#TimeTravelTuesday. Our fast-moving fashion focuse #TimeTravelTuesday. Our fast-moving fashion focused media ensures that there are always changes in what is hot (and what is not) when it comes to “modernizing”. A bathroom modernized to the latest Instagram-worthy image will always look dated faster than a bathroom that has had a considered renovation to complement the style and period of the existing architecture.

Let us ignore the OHS issues and consider if these 1958 renovators are modernizing their bathroom by putting up curtains or removing them? What do you think?
#MarketMonday. This home is a wonderful example of #MarketMonday. This home is a wonderful example of how a modestly scaled, but beautifully designed home can feel much larger than it actually is with its glorious connections to its private outdoor spaces.
“The thoughtful design transcends time, remaining completely relevant with its high ceilings and processional flow that includes full height windows and sliding doors that allow a seamless connection between inside and out and welcome natural light and cross ventilation.”

#SupplierSaturday. Over the years Secret Design St #SupplierSaturday. Over the years Secret Design Studio has built up a lot of mid-century building supplier catalogues and brochures in our archives. This is one of our favourites, from Wyt-Ray products who manufactured residential lighting, well before Beacon Lighting was conceived!

Which light fitting is your favourite?
